In the wake of the pandemic and the global work of vaccination, we are pleased to announce that the 8th European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering (ECCOMAS Congress 2022) will be hosted as an in-person event in Oslo, the capital of Norway. The congress is hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), together with SINTEF and the Nordic Association for Computational Mechanics in Engineering (NOACM).

ECCOMAS Congress 2022 is a sequel to the successful previous ECCOMAS congresses in Brussels (1992), Paris (1996), Barcelona (2000), Jyväskylä (2004), Venice (2008), Vienna (2012), Crete (2016), and Paris (2020, online).

On behalf of the organisers of the ECCOMAS Congress 2022, we invite you to participate in this distinguished scientific and technical event. We are confident that it will be an excellent forum to communicate and share new ideas and methods that will foster development in computational methods and their applications in applied sciences and engineering. Advances in technology and the ever-growing role of digital sensors and computers have led to an exponential growth in the amount and complexity of (big) data collected by scientists, enterprises, and public agencies. ECCOMAS Congress 2022 therefore aims to be a meeting place for exploring how the combination of physics-based and data-driven methods can solve important societal and economical challenges.

The congress will take place at the Norway Convention Center in Oslo - a historic and cultural city with magnificent architecture, on the doorstep of some of the world's most beautiful scenery. Thus, the congress will also give you the opportunity to visit Norway and experience its famous fjords, mountains, and light summer nights.

The local organizing committee believes that in-person events are the best way to communicate science and further expand personal connections around the world, in particular for young researchers. The ECCOMAS Congress 2022 is therefore planned as a fully "on-site" event for the time being. However, the congress may be changed to a virtual event if COVID-19 or similar pandemic outbreaks continue to enforce too strong restrictions on international travel and the organization of in-person events.

We look forward to welcoming you to Oslo on 5th - 9th of June 2022.
